Recently, the GISD School Trustees have discussed selling the historical Old Carver School Building (former Boys & Girls Club). The school was built in 1964 to avoid integration and prior to that, served as the community’s Juneteenth Park, which the City of Georgetown later sold to the school district for $1.00. Former students and neighbors are asked to attend the School Board Meeting, Monday, September 20, 7:00 pm at Hammerlun Center, 507 East University Avenue. If you wish to speak (limit: 3 minutes), you may fill out a REQUEST TO APPEAR BEFORE THE BOARD FORM when you arrive at the meeting. Please, feel free to speak and express your concerns.
Join us at the Board Meeting and make your concerns known to the School Board about the sale of the building, hopefully with options such as REPURPOSING (the building providing a facility that benefits the neighborhood/community).
